Every now and then, when the weather is not good for astroimaging with my own equipment, I like to use public data from the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) to create my own interpretations like the image below of the Tarantula nebula. People ask me how this is done, so I created a presentation for people to get started. A lot of information is available on the web, but it can be difficult to know where to start.

Actually, the data processing is not very different from what one would do with data from amateur equipment producing narrowband and wide band data. The data repositories of Hubble contain however much more and key is to select meaningful image data to process. Image data are mostly in FITS file format and care is needed in their interpretation. Details are given in the presentation of which the download link is given in the presentation.
